Still, it is probably one of the most frequently opened apps on the iPhone. You check it in the morning before leaving home, between appointments, before a trip, or just to see whether that annoying rain band is really going to arrive at 6 p.m. With iOS 27, Apple is not trying to turn Weather into a flashy AI assistant. Honestly, that may be the right call.

The real change is elsewhere: the app becomes clearer, more direct, and less scattered. Apple seems to have understood that a good weather app does not need to impress. It needs to answer quickly.

A new Highlights section that gets straight to the point

The most visible change sits at the top of the app, with the arrival of a new Highlights section. The idea is simple: immediately show the weather details that actually matter for the day.

This block can surface a major temperature swing, a chance of rain, stronger wind, or any weather condition that could affect an otherwise normal day. It is not a spectacular feature, but it is exactly the kind of useful detail that saves you from digging through maps, cards, and submenus.

Apple had already added plenty of data to Weather over the years. Feels-like temperature, UV index, humidity, pressure, visibility, animated maps… Almost everything was already there, but not always in the right place. With iOS 27, the app feels more focused on organizing information properly rather than simply stacking more of it.

Rain and wind are much easier to reach

The other meaningful change concerns the Conditions section. Until now, the Weather app mainly showed temperature and general conditions hour by hour. With iOS 27, users can switch to two dedicated views: precipitation and wind.

The precipitation view shows the hourly chance of rain or snow. The wind view highlights the expected wind speed throughout the day. These details were already present in the app, but they often required one or two extra taps. Apple is bringing them back to the front.

This is the kind of update that looks minor in a feature list but makes a real difference in daily use. Knowing whether it will rain at 2 p.m., or whether the wind will pick up later in the afternoon, is often more useful than checking the exact humidity or atmospheric pressure.

The 10-day forecast is easier to read

The 10-day view follows the same logic. By switching display modes, users can now see rain or wind trends across several days without opening each daily forecast one by one.

That is a welcome change, especially for people who use Weather to plan a weekend, a commute, or an outdoor activity. The app does not replace specialized weather services, and it does not magically solve long-running complaints about accuracy in certain regions. From an interface perspective, though, it becomes much more coherent.

A huge widget that can reshape the Home Screen

iOS 27 also introduces a new extra-large widget format that works with Weather. On the iPhone, this widget can take up an entire Home Screen page. Some people will probably find that excessive. Personally, for a weather app, I think the idea makes sense.

A large Weather widget can become a proper dashboard: current conditions, forecast, rain, wind, and the trend for the coming days. For users who check the weather often, this is more convenient than opening the app several times a day.

My take

This update will not sell an iPhone on its own. It does not lean into an “AI revolution,” it does not promise magically more accurate forecasts, and it does not reinvent the app. But it does fix a real issue: the information often felt too spread out.

With iOS 27, Apple brings Weather closer to what it should always be: fast, clear, and pleasant to read. It is less flashy than a major Siri or Apple Intelligence announcement, but in everyday use, these small refinements are often the ones that stick.

FAQ

When will iOS 27 be available?
iOS 27 is currently in beta. The final release is expected in fall 2026, in line with Apple’s usual major iOS update cycle.

Does the Weather app in iOS 27 add artificial intelligence features?
No, the changes spotted so far mainly concern the interface, weather views, and widgets. The app becomes easier to read, not necessarily more “AI-powered.”

What are the main Weather app changes in iOS 27?
The main additions are the Highlights section, dedicated rain and wind views, an improved 10-day forecast view, and the new extra-large widget.

Do these changes make forecasts more reliable?
Not directly. iOS 27 mainly improves how weather data is presented. Accuracy still depends on the weather sources used and the geographic area.

Apple’s Weather app is not usually the star of a keynote.
