It is no longer the latest big premium iPhone, but it still keeps much of what made the Pro Max models so appealing: a large 120 Hz OLED display, Dynamic Island, always-on display, A16 Bionic chip, 48 MP main sensor, 3x telephoto lens, very solid battery life, MagSafe and a stainless steel finish that still gives it that true flagship feel.

So the real question is not whether the iPhone 14 Pro Max still works well. Yes, it still works very well. The more interesting question is this: is it still worth buying in 2026, now that Apple reserves its most visible new features for more recent generations, especially around Apple Intelligence?

In my view, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is still one of the refurbished iPhones most worth considering seriously, but not for everyone. It should be bought for what it is: a very complete former flagship, still powerful and genuinely pleasant in everyday use, but stuck just before two major Apple shifts: USB-C and integrated artificial intelligence.

Why the iPhone 14 Pro Max remains a credible choice in 2026

The iPhone 14 Pro Max came out in 2022 and, at the time, represented the top of Apple’s lineup. It was the first big iPhone with Dynamic Island, the first Pro Max with a 48 MP main sensor, and one of the models that truly brought the always-on display to the iPhone.

Four years later, it obviously no longer has the aura of the latest model that has just arrived. But it keeps such a solid hardware foundation that it still does not feel like an old iPhone. The interface remains fluid, the screen is gorgeous, battery life is still very comfortable and the photo/video setup remains better than that of many newer non-Pro models.

Most importantly, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is among the models compatible with iOS 26. That is essential in the refurbished market: you are not just buying a phone that works today, but also a device that remains updated, secure and integrated into the modern Apple ecosystem.

iPhone 14 Pro Max 128 Gb - Refurbished and unlocked

469,99 €Discover

iPhone 14 Pro Max 256 Gb - Refurbished and unlocked

554,99 €Discover

What the iPhone 14 Pro Max still does very well

The display: still one of its strongest arguments

The iPhone 14 Pro Max display remains excellent in 2026. We are talking about a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel, with a 2796 x 1290 pixel resolution, 460 ppi density, ProMotion technology up to 120 Hz, always-on display, HDR, True Tone, wide P3 color and brightness that can rise very high outdoors.

And here, unlike the standard iPhone 14, there is no 60 Hz compromise. The 120 Hz refresh rate really changes how the phone feels: animations look more natural, scrolling is smoother and the whole experience still gives off that premium-model impression.

Dynamic Island has also aged fairly well. It is not an absolute revolution in daily use, let’s be honest, but it clearly modernizes the front. Compared with an iPhone 13 Pro Max, for example, the iPhone 14 Pro Max immediately feels more current.

Performance: the A16 Bionic still has plenty of headroom

Under the hood, the iPhone 14 Pro Max uses the A16 Bionic chip, with a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. In 2026, it is no longer Apple’s newest chip, but let’s be realistic: for everyday use, it remains more than enough.

Banking apps, social networks, web browsing, streaming, photos, videos, games, CarPlay, AirDrop, classic multitasking: the iPhone 14 Pro Max does not feel like it is struggling. That is exactly what makes older Pro models so interesting when refurbished. You lose the “new product” status, but you keep a genuinely high-end experience.

The limit, then, is not raw speed. The limit comes more from Apple’s software strategy: despite its power, the A16 Bionic in the iPhone 14 Pro Max does not provide access to Apple Intelligence. And in 2026, that is the point that changes how the product should be judged.

Photos and video: real Pro-level quality

This is one of the areas where the iPhone 14 Pro Max remains very strong. It has a Pro camera system with a 48 MP main sensor, 12 MP ultra-wide, 12 MP 3x telephoto lens, 2x optical zoom obtained through the quad-pixel sensor and a LiDAR scanner that is useful for night portraits and some augmented reality experiences.

For everyday photos, the results are still genuinely excellent. Images are detailed, colors are consistent, HDR is well controlled and the 48 MP sensor offers real headroom compared with the older 12 MP sensors. The 3x telephoto lens also remains a concrete advantage over standard models, especially for portraits, travel shots and scenes where you cannot physically move closer.

On the video side, the iPhone 14 Pro Max keeps a very serious level: 4K up to 60 fps, Dolby Vision, Cinematic mode up to 4K HDR at 30 fps, Action mode up to 2.8K at 60 fps and ProRes. For anyone who records a lot of video, this model remains clearly above a more recent standard iPhone.

Battery life: the comfort of the Pro Max format

Battery life is one of the simplest reasons to choose a Pro Max. Apple claimed up to 29 hours of video playback, up to 25 hours of streamed video playback and up to 95 hours of audio playback. In real-world use, that translates into a phone that can still handle an intense day very well, sometimes even more depending on battery health and usage habits.

With refurbished devices, though, this point needs to be checked carefully. An iPhone 14 Pro Max can be excellent, but its battery life depends heavily on the actual health of the battery. That is why buying from a serious seller matters so much: on a premium model of this size, a tired battery can spoil a large part of the experience.

Connectivity: 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and UWB

The iPhone 14 Pro Max keeps connectivity that is perfectly suitable for 2026: sub-6 GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, Apple Pay and the Ultra Wideband chip. It does not have Wi-Fi 7 like newer models, but for the vast majority of uses this is not a real problem.

Recent accessories work very well, AirDrop remains fast, AirTags benefit from precise finding and the Apple ecosystem keeps all its consistency. We are still very far from an iPhone that feels outdated on the connectivity front.

MagSafe: still a real everyday convenience

MagSafe remains one of those details that quickly becomes hard to give up. On the iPhone 14 Pro Max, you get MagSafe wireless charging up to 15 W, the magnet system, NFC accessory identification and the whole world of compatible power banks, car mounts, desk chargers, cases and wallets.

In 2026, the MagSafe ecosystem is more mature than it was when the iPhone 14 Pro Max launched. For a refurbished model, it is a real convenience bonus, especially with a large iPhone that is often used as the main screen for videos, GPS navigation or light work.

The big issue in 2026: yes to iOS 26, no to Apple Intelligence

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is compatible with iOS 26

This is the reassuring part: the iPhone 14 Pro Max is indeed compatible with iOS 26. So it continues to receive system features, security updates and the current Apple ecosystem.

For a refurbished purchase, this matters. A high-end iPhone that remains supported can keep excellent practical value for several years. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is not just “still usable”: it remains pleasant, fast and coherent within today’s Apple environment.

But Apple Intelligence is not available

This is the real compromise. Apple Intelligence is not available on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple reserves its AI features for the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 16 and newer compatible models.

Is it a decisive limitation? Not necessarily. If the goal is to have a large premium iPhone that is smooth, durable, excellent for photos/video and well integrated into the Apple ecosystem, the iPhone 14 Pro Max still makes a lot of sense. But if the idea is to buy an iPhone truly aimed at Apple’s next software years, with smart summaries, Genmoji, writing tools, natural search in Photos, an improved Siri and integrated AI features, you need to look at least at an iPhone 15 Pro.

My opinion is fairly clear: the iPhone 14 Pro Max remains an excellent classic high-end iPhone. But it is no longer the iPhone to buy if you absolutely want to enter Apple’s new AI phase.

The hardware compromises you really feel in 2026

Lightning: the detail that becomes less and less discreet

The iPhone 14 Pro Max still uses the Lightning port. In 2022, that was not a surprise. In 2026, it starts to stand out, especially if all your other everyday devices have already moved to USB-C: MacBook, iPad, headphones, power bank, handheld console, camera, secondary smartphone.

It is not a disaster if you already own Lightning cables or MagSafe accessories. But for anyone who wants to simplify chargers, it is clearly something to consider. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and later models have a very concrete advantage here.

The weight: 240 grams are noticeable

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is a large and heavy smartphone. With its 240 grams, stainless steel frame and large screen, it gives a real premium feeling, but also a significant presence in the hand and in the pocket.

For watching videos, reading, retouching photos or using GPS, it is very comfortable. For one-handed use, it is another story. Anyone who likes compact or lightweight phones may find it tiring after just a few days.

No Apple Intelligence despite the A16 chip

This is probably the most frustrating point. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is powerful, fast and still very premium, but it remains outside the Apple Intelligence perimeter. In 2026, that dividing line is more visible than it was in 2024, because AI features are starting to become an important part of the Apple experience.

It is not a problem for everyone. But it is the kind of limitation that can matter if you want to keep the iPhone for a long time and make the most of all the software features still to come.

Storage: 128 GB exists, but 256 GB feels more logical

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is available in 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB versions. The 128 GB model may be enough for classic use, especially with iCloud. But on a Pro Max iPhone, which invites you to film, take photos and keep plenty of content locally, 256 GB feels much more balanced to me.

The 512 GB and 1 TB versions are interesting for anyone who records a lot of video, for creators or for those who truly want to avoid any storage constraints. In the refurbished market, though, the real price difference matters most: sometimes moving from 128 to 256 GB costs little, and that is when the choice becomes obvious.

iPhone 14 Pro Max 128 Gb - Refurbished and unlocked

469,99 €Discover

iPhone 14 Pro Max 256 Gb - Refurbished and unlocked

554,99 €Discover

Compared with iPhone 13 Pro Max, 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max: where does it stand?

Compared with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is more interesting if the price difference remains reasonable. It brings Dynamic Island, always-on display, A16 Bionic chip, 48 MP sensor, Action mode, crash detection and Emergency SOS via satellite. It is not just a small refinement.

Compared with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the comparison becomes tighter. The 15 Pro Max brings USB-C, a newer chip, Apple Intelligence and a more advanced telephoto lens. If the price is close, it is clearly more future-proof. But if the iPhone 14 Pro Max costs significantly less refurbished, it remains very tempting.

Compared with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Pro Max mainly plays the value-for-money card. The 16 Pro Max is more modern, more powerful and more AI-oriented, but also much more expensive. The 14 Pro Max then becomes the rational choice for getting back a Pro Max experience without chasing the very latest release.

My personal ranking in 2026 would be fairly simple: iPhone 14 Pro Max if the price is very good, iPhone 15 Pro Max if USB-C and Apple Intelligence really matter, iPhone 16 Pro Max if budget is not the issue.

Refurbished iPhone 14 Pro Max from CertiDeal: a purchase that makes sense

In 2026, buying a refurbished iPhone 14 Pro Max makes much more sense than looking for it new at a price too close to recent models. This is exactly the kind of iPhone that becomes interesting when the price drops enough: it keeps a premium experience, but becomes much more accessible.

With CertiDeal, the appeal comes mainly from a more controlled purchase. The site highlights its 30/24 warranty: 30 days to test it and change your mind, followed by a 24-month warranty. On a refurbished Pro Max iPhone, this is not a small detail. It is what allows you to buy an older high-end model without feeling like you are playing the lottery.

The first point to check remains the battery. An iPhone 14 Pro Max with a battery in good condition can be excellent for a long time. The same model with a worn battery immediately loses part of its appeal. That is why it matters to look at the options offered, the cosmetic condition, the return terms and the warranty.

What the warranty covers

The CertiDeal warranty covers technical failures and phone components, excluding breakage and oxidation. In case of a problem, the device can be diagnosed, repaired or replaced depending on the situation.

On an iPhone 14 Pro Max, this matters because the components are premium: 120 Hz OLED display, Pro camera module, Face ID, battery, connectors, speakers. A controlled purchase is therefore much more reassuring than an isolated purchase from a private seller.

What the warranty does not cover

As often happens, the warranty does not cover accidental damage: drops, broken screen, oxidation, misuse or wear caused by abnormal use. So it is important to stay realistic: the warranty protects against failures, not against every daily accident.

But for a refurbished purchase, having an identified point of contact, a trial period and a long warranty really changes things. Especially on an iPhone that can still be expensive depending on condition, capacity and color.

Pros and cons analysis: iPhone 14 Pro Max in 2026

Strengths

Weaknesses

Large 120 Hz OLED display still excellent

Lightning port instead of USB-C

Dynamic Island and always-on display

No Apple Intelligence

A16 Bionic chip still very fast

Heavy format and not very practical one-handed

Excellent camera system with 48 MP sensor

Price sometimes close to a refurbished iPhone 15 Pro

3x telephoto lens, ProRAW, ProRes and LiDAR

128 GB a little tight for Pro use

Very good battery life

Battery to be checked carefully when refurbished

Compatible with iOS 26

Less future-proof than AI-compatible models

Who I would still recommend the iPhone 14 Pro Max to

Those who want a large premium screen: for videos, reading, GPS, photos and visual comfort, it remains excellent.

Those who want a real iPhone Pro without paying for the latest model: the 14 Pro Max keeps the essentials of the high-end experience.

Those who take a lot of photos and record a lot of video: 48 MP sensor, 3x telephoto, ProRAW, ProRes, LiDAR and Dolby Vision remain strong arguments.

Those who prioritize battery life: the Pro Max format remains very convenient from this point of view, as long as the battery is in good condition.

Those buying refurbished with a real price gap: if the price is well positioned compared with the 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max, it becomes very interesting.

Who I would not recommend it to

Those who want Apple Intelligence: you need to look at least at an iPhone 15 Pro.

Those who want to move definitively to USB-C: the iPhone 14 Pro Max stays on Lightning.

Those who do not like large phones: 240 grams are really noticeable.

Those who find an iPhone 15 Pro Max at a close price: in that case, the more recent model often makes more sense.

Those who want to keep the iPhone for a very long time with all new software features: the absence of Apple Intelligence already limits its horizon.

FAQ about iPhone 14 Pro Max in 2026

Does the iPhone 14 Pro Max receive iOS 26?

Yes. Apple includes the iPhone 14 Pro Max among the models compatible with iOS 26.

Will the iPhone 14 Pro Max get iOS 27?

It is impossible to say officially until Apple announces it. But given that the iPhone 14 Pro Max came out in 2022 and is still based on an A16 Bionic chip, it keeps a more comfortable software trajectory than older models.

Does Apple Intelligence work on iPhone 14 Pro Max?

No. Apple Intelligence is reserved for the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 16 and later compatible models. So the iPhone 14 Pro Max is not compatible, despite the A16 Bionic chip.

Is the iPhone 14 Pro Max better than the iPhone 13 Pro Max?

Yes, especially if the price difference remains reasonable. It brings Dynamic Island, always-on display, A16 Bionic chip, 48 MP main sensor, Action mode, crash detection and Emergency SOS via satellite.

Is it better to buy an iPhone 15 Pro Max?

If the price is close, yes. The iPhone 15 Pro Max brings USB-C and Apple Intelligence, two important advantages in 2026. But if the refurbished iPhone 14 Pro Max costs significantly less, it remains an excellent high-end choice.

Is 128 GB enough on an iPhone 14 Pro Max?

For classic use, yes. But on a Pro Max, it is better to aim for 256 GB if you record a lot of video, take a lot of photos or want to keep the phone for several years without constantly checking available storage.

Is the iPhone 14 Pro Max a good refurbished choice?

Yes, provided the price is well positioned, the battery is in good condition and the purchase is covered by a serious warranty. With a seller like CertiDeal, the 30-day trial period and 30-month warranty make the purchase much more reassuring.

Final thoughts

I find that the iPhone 14 Pro Max remains one of the most interesting older iPhones to buy refurbished in 2026. It still has that very pleasant mix of a large premium display, fluidity, battery life, solid photos and high-end finish. Unlike some standard models, it really does not feel old in everyday use.

Its real problem is not power. It is not even the screen, the camera or battery life. Its real problem is that it sits just before Apple’s new frontier: USB-C on one side, Apple Intelligence on the other. And in 2026, those two absences are starting to matter.

So my verdict is fairly nuanced: yes, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is still worth buying in 2026, but only if its refurbished price is truly interesting compared with the iPhone 15 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max. In that scenario, it remains an excellent choice. Not the most future-proof one, clearly. But still one of the best ways to get a true Pro Max experience without blowing up the budget.

In 2026, the iPhone 14 Pro Max sits in a slightly unusual place in Apple’s lineup.

[53

post-1958","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-buying-guides
["GET
